Adding wires to circuits
You will learn how to add wires to circuits via the “Arc Wire” and “Chamfered Wire” options and edit wire parameters through circuit path adjustments.
Exercise files:
Wires.rvt (this project has Arch_Link.rvt linked)
Estimated time to complete topic:
5 minutes
Topic steps:
9
1. On the Systems ribbon, in the Electrical panel, there are Wire tools. However, wires can be placed automatically on circuits.
2. Hover over a receptacle in EXAM 1-4 and press TAB. This highlights the circuit. Click to select the circuit.
3. With the circuit selected, a preview of the wires appears in the drawing area. There are also wire icons in the drawing area and tools on the contextual ribbon. Click either Arc Wire or Chamfered Wire to add wires to the circuit.
4. After wires are placed, they can be selected and adjusted using the dot controls.
5. The wire instance parameters or type parameters can be adjusted after they are placed. Be aware that the Wire Size cannot be manually adjusted.
6. The circuit path can be adjusted, which affects the Wire Size. With the circuit selected, click Edit Path in the contextual ribbon.
7. Revit goes into Edit Path mode. The Path Mode can be adjusted. The options are Farthest Device and All Devices. Additionally, the Path Offset can be specified.
8. In the drawing area, select path lines and move them as needed to represent the circuit path from the devices to the panel.
9. Observe the Wire Size in the Properties palette to see how the path affects size.
