Status Enquiry in the Network License Manager (LMTOOLS)

Causes:

  • Wrong or Corrupted license file.

  • License manager was not correctly configured.

  • Remnants from a previous LMTOOLS installation on the computer with another lmgrd.exe still running

  • Server did not start properly.

  • Antivirus program (e.g. AVG) is blocking lmgrd.exe.

  • Server unable to resolve hostname vs IP address correctly.

  • Use Service and Start at power up are selected.

Solution:

Verify the options below and test LMTOOLS after each:

Make sure the license file is correct and the license manager is correctly configured

Configuring the Network License Manager on Windows - Network Admin

(Please note that NLM 11.18 can have issues with comments in the license file so it's recommended to remove all comments or recreate the license file from Autodesk Account and do not modify it.)

Duplicate lmgrd.exe running

Check for duplicate lmgrd.exe processes running in the background:

  1. Start Windows Task Manager.

  2. Under Processes tab, select Show processes for all users.

  3. Read through the process list and if you locate running lmgrd.exe, select it and click on End Process button.

Verify that server is started properly

  1. Stop the server from the Start/Stop/Reread tab in LMTOOLS.

  2. Open License File (<filename>.lic) in a text editor (e.g. Notepad).

  3. Change the server name with 127.0.0.1 or with your server's IP address.

  4. Save the license file.

  5. Start the server from the Start/Stop/Reread tab in LMTOOLS.

  6. Go to Server Status tab and click Perform Status Enquiry.

  7. Verify if the server started properly.

Add exceptions to antivirus

Add the processes lmgrd.exe and adskflex.exe to the exception list. Both executable files are located inside the LMTOOLS installation folder, by default is C:\Autodesk\Autodesk Network License Manager.

Different communication port

Force the license server to use a different port for communication. See How to change the assigned ports on an Autodesk license server and client.

If Use Service and Start at Power Up are selected and the above do not help, do the following:

  1. Start Windows Task Manager.

  2. Go to the services

  3. Right-click on the named service for FlexNet

  4. Go to the properties

  5. Select Log On

  6. Select Local System account

  7. Click OK

  8. Go to the server and Read
