Issue:

How to add weight parameter of steel profiles to the schedule in Revit.

Solution:

A weight parameter can be added to the schedule by creating a shared parameter:

Create the shared parameter:

  1. Click File menu > Shared Parameters.
  2. Create or select a parameter group to which to add the parameter.
  3. In the Parameters Panel, click New.
  4. In the Parameter Properties dialog box, enter a Name (for example, "Weight"), set the Discipline to Common, and set the Type to Number.
Note: You need to set the Discipline to Common in this case because the Weight Type Parameter already stored in the Column is set to the Number type. In order to use the weight in the Parameter formula, the parameters need to be the same type.
  5. Click OK to close each dialog box.

Add the Parameter to the Family Type:

  1. Select your column, and then click the Edit Family button on the Options bar.
  2. Click Yes to open the column for editing.
  3. In the Design bar, click Family Types.
  4. In the Parameters panel, click Add.
  5. For the Parameter Type, select Shared Parameter. Click Select and choose the Parameter that you created in the first set of steps.
  6. Click OK to return to the Family Types dialog box.
  7. Scroll down and locate the Weight Parameter under Other. In the Formula column, enter W.
  8. Click OK.
  9. On the Design bar, click Load into Project. Select the Project and then click Yes to override the existing version.

Add the new parameter to the schedule:

  1. On the Design bar, Click View menu > Schedule/Quantities.
  2. In the Category panel, highlight Structural Columns.
  3. Click OK.
  4. In the Schedule Properties dialog box, click the Fields tab.
  5. Scroll down through the Available Fields and select the new parameter (Weight).
  6. Click Add.

If you want to calculate the total weight, follow these steps:

  1. Do the same for the length parameter.
  2. Click Calculated Value.
  3. In the Calculated Value dialog box, enter a name. Set the Discipline to Common and the Type to Number.
  4. In the Formula box, enter (Length/1)*Weight
  5. Click OK to close each dialog box.
