Move the Survey Point

After initially defining coordinates for the survey point, you can move it later if needed.

In the image, the blue grid represents the survey coordinate system. The survey point defines a known geographic location in the survey coordinate system. This blue grid is for illustration purposes only; it does not display in views.

Before moving the survey point , determine whether you should move it when it is clipped or unclipped:

Note: To move the entire model in relation to the survey point, use the Relocate Project tool, or move the clipped project base point.

To move the survey point

  1. In the site plan view or another view that displays the survey point, select the survey point.
  2. Click the clip to change its state to clipped or unclipped, depending on how you want to move the survey point.

Read the following sections for more details.

  3. Drag the survey point to the desired location.

If the survey point is unclipped, you can use the Properties palette or the Survey Point fields in the drawing area to enter values for N/S (northing), E/W (easting), and Elevation.

  4. If you unclipped the survey point, clip it again.
  5. Optional: To ensure that the survey point does not move inadvertently, pin it in place by clicking Modify tabModify panel (Pin).

Pinning the survey point disables the Rotate True North, Acquire Coordinates, and Specify Coordinates tools.

Move the survey coordinate system in relation to the model

This action moves the survey coordinate system relative to the model. Based on the new coordinates for the survey point, the entire survey coordinate system shifts, changing its proximity to the project coordinate system.

To do this, move the clipped survey point.

The project base point maintains its position relative to the model, and coordinates update to reflect the change in proximity between the project base point and the survey point.

In the following image, black spot coordinates are based on the survey point, and orange spot coordinates are based on the project base point. When you move the clipped survey point, only the yellow highlighted coordinates change.

Change the survey point to another location in the survey coordinate system

This action redefines the survey point to specify a different reference point in the survey coordinate system.

To do this, unclip the survey point, and move it.

In the model, coordinates of the survey point change to reflect its new location and its new proximity to the project base point. However, coordinates for the project base point and model elements do not change. In addition, the survey coordinate system does not move relative to the project coordinate system.

In the following image, black spot coordinates are based on the survey point, and orange spot coordinates are based on the project base point. When you move the unclipped survey point, only the yellow highlighted coordinates change.
