Using Parameter Mapping Tables for IFC

Autodesk Support

May 24, 2018

What:
Easily export BIM data in Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) file format using Revit open-source IFC.

Who:
Architects, engineers, designers, project managers, BIM managers.

How:
The IFC file format has predefined parameters that make it easy to use as a standard exchange format. Certain Revit parameters, such as Level or Height, are automatically mapped to corresponding IFC parameters.
When working with other parameters or custom parameters, you can create your own parameter-mapping table. This table automatically maps the parameters during export:

The parameter-mapping table is a simple text file that you can define following this syntax:
IFC_Common_PropertySet_Name<tab>IFC_Property_Name<tab>Revit_Property_Name

In this example, the parameters from the German version of Revit are mapped to the corresponding IFC parameters:
Pset_WallCommon              Compartmentation             Brandabschnitt
Pset_WallCommon              Combustible                       Entflammbar

You can add as many lines as needed to your parameter-mapping table. Here is an example of the result after the export, as viewed in Autodesk Navisworks

Why:
Export your BIM Information to IFC.
