BIM 360 Docs Using Linked/Xrefed Files / Models

Autodesk Support

Sep 27, 2017

Hi Team,

BIM360 Docs has the capabilities to view files as they were in Revit (including linked models) or AutoCAD (including XREFs).

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/bim-360-docs/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/ENU/BIM-360-Docs/files/GUID-1B49B17A-12C3-47A1-9AAC-EFC46AF9D7AD-htm.html

For Example in Revit I have a Model with 2 linked files

In the image below you can see some of the "steel structure" from the linked model

So I turn off the Structure Model

So you can see the difference

So now I want to now see this Revit Model in Docs but I want to maintain the linked models.

So I choose Upload -> Linked Files (Not File and Do Not Drag and Drop)

Choose all my files that are included in the set. i.e. Master model and linked Files.

Once they have been uploaded choose one of the radio buttons next to the file name that is the master model. (Parent File Column)

Press continure

Now when I open the Architecture model which I marked as the master model you see all the models combined in one model.

If I go and look at an AutoCAD/Advance Steel Model in Advance Steel you can see I have a master model with another file Xrefed into it (Highlighted in Blue).

Using the Same procedure

Chose my 2 DWG's and again choose the parent folder.

Both file appear BIM 360 Docs

If I open the master model you see both models.

Happy Days

Stephan (aka Gumby)
