Learn how to install, license, and access the generative design capabilities in Revit.
Starting with Revit 2021, Generative Design is automatically installed when you install Revit. There is no separate installation for Generative Design.
Generative Design updates are available through the Autodesk desktop app and as part of regular Revit updates.
The Autodesk desktop app is installed by default with Revit. It notifies you when an update is available. You can download and install an update directly from the app. To check for an update, click the app's icon in the system tray.
To be able to use Generative Design from the Revit user interface, you need a subscription to the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering, & Construction (AEC) Collection or an enterprise business account. Without either of those, you can access similar functionality using Dynamo for Revit.
To check your Autodesk software subscriptions, sign in to your Autodesk Account at manage.autodesk.com. Your products are listed in Products & ServicesAll Products & Services.
This table summarizes the differences in access to Generative Design in Revit when you have the AEC Collection or an enterprise business account, or a subscription to Revit only.
