Define the Survey Point

Specify the survey point to provide a real-world context for the Revit model.

If you are working with a civil engineer, ask for the site coordinates to use for the survey point.

When you import or link other models to the current Revit model, the models can use the survey point for alignment. See About Shared Coordinates.

If you have already defined the survey point and you later need to move it, see Move the Survey Point.

To define the survey point

  1. Open the site plan view or another view that displays it.

Initially, the project base point and the survey point are located at the same position, and they look like this:

  2. To select the survey point, move the cursor over the symbol and look at the tooltip or the status bar. If it says Site: Project Base Point, press Tab until it says Site: Survey Point. Click to select the survey point.

A clip displays next to the survey point to indicate its clipped state. It may be clipped or unclipped .

  3. If the survey point is clipped, click to unclip it.
  4. Drag the survey point to the desired location.

As an alternative, using the Properties palette or the Survey Point fields in the drawing area, enter values for N/S (northing), E/W (easting), and Elevation.

  5. In the drawing area, click to clip the survey point again.
  6. Optional: To ensure that the survey point does not move inadvertently, pin it in place by clicking Modify tabModify panel (Pin).

Pinning the survey point disables the Rotate True North, Acquire Coordinates, and Specify Coordinates tools.
