Place a View Reference

A view reference displays the view number and sheet number (if the view is included on a sheet) for the corresponding view.

A view reference can be placed on any standard project view except a perspective view, a schedule, or a sheet view. To place a view reference on an axonometric 3D view, the view must be locked. Double-click a view reference to open the target view.

A view reference is a symbol. You can create a view reference family in the Family Editor. View reference families can contain lines, filled regions, text and labels for the view number and sheet number parameter values.

Note: You can place a view reference on other views. If you try to reference the current view on a sheet, no symbol is placed.

To add a view reference

  1. Open the view to which you want to add a reference.
Note: If the view is on a sheet, right-click the view, and click Activate View. You are actually placing the reference on the view, not the sheet.
  2. Click Annotate tabTag panelView Reference.
  3. Optionally, on the View Reference panel, under View Type, select the type of view to display for the Target View list.
  4. On the View Reference panel, select the Target View (the view you wish to reference).
  5. Click in the drawing area to place the reference.
Note: Primary and Dependent views - View references display in the primary view and all related dependent views (except for the view that it is referencing). For example, if you have a view split into 2 dependent views (left and right), and you add a view reference to the right view to reference the left, the view reference appears in the primary view and in the right view, but not in the left view.

To change the view in a view reference

  1. Select the view reference in the drawing area.
  2. On the View Reference panel, use the drop-down lists to select the View Type and Target View.

To hide view references

  1. Click View tabGraphics panel (Visibility/Graphics).
  2. Click the Annotation Categories tab.
  3. Clear the check box for View Reference.
