Stitch mesh

To stitch a mesh:

  1. Select a mesh.
  2. Click Mesh Tools tab > Fix panel > Mesh Doctor > Stitch Mesh. The Stitch Mesh dialog is displayed:

  3. Choose the Iteration Mode. Select:
    • Single pass to run the stitch algorithm once at the given tolerance.
    • Multiple pass to run the stitch algorithm for the specified Number of steps, using logarithmic progression between the start and end tolerance.
  4. Enter the Start tolerance for stitching.
  5. Enter the End tolerance for stitching.
  6. Enter a value to specify the Number of steps for the Multi pass Iteration Mode.
  7. Select a Stitch Mode:
    • Stitch boundary nodes restricts the stitch operation to the boundary nodes.
    • Stitch full mesh applies the stitch operation to the whole mesh. Select Remove coincident nodes and collapsed triangles or Combine selected meshes to specify the stitch method.
  8. Click OK.

Initially, the mesh is stitched by generating triangles to join boundaries that are close when compared to the Start tolerance. The tolerance is then increased, and more triangles are generated. This sequence is repeated until the mesh is closed or the End Tolerance is reached.

Note: The Start tolerance and End tolerance determine whether it is possible to stitch the mesh. If the boundaries are too far apart to stitch, use Manage tab > Fix panel > Fill hole to close holes in the mesh
