Thank-you for downloading Autodesk PowerMill. If you're new to PowerMill, you can use the following videos to get you up and running. If you're looking for even more training, you can access our FREE, in-depth classes HERE

OK, so let's get started. The following series of videos will show you how to:-

  1. Understand the user interface
  2. Import a CAD model
  3. Define stock
  4. Create tools
  5. Calculate high quality toolpaths for:-
    • High-efficiency roughing and rest-roughing
    • Semi-finishing and finishing
    • 3-axis and 5-axis programming
  6. Make toolpath edits
  7. Simulate toolpaths
  8. Export NC code
  9. Save projects

Each video includes step by step guidance and should take around 30 minutes to complete.

Let’s get going with a quick video to introduce you to the PowerMill interface.

OK, let’s continue by creating some 3-axis roughing programs. We’ll look at defining a cutting tool, setting up feeds and speeds as well as considering how to optimize the toolpaths with powerful editing tools.

This next video looks at using PowerMill stock models to identify and remove the excess stock left by the previous roughing cutter. We’ll use a smaller cutter to remove this stock safely and efficiently.

Great – the part is now ready for finish machining. Let’s continue by using PowerMill’s Steep and Shallow strategy to efficiently machine the part. We’ll then look at outputting G-code data files that could be run on a 3-axis CNC machine tool.

Let’s focus on finish machining some local regions of the part. Here we’ll use PowerMill boundaries to limit our machining to key zones and combine with different toolpath types to cut the part in different ways.

Congratulations! You’ve used PowerMill to program a mold – great job!
