Exclude nodes from evaluation

You can temporarily disable the evaluation of problematic nodes by the Evaluation Manager. Problematic nodes create playback slowdowns, and disabling them can increase performance. This way, you can evaluate things that are necessary to a scene.

You can use the Profiler to identify which nodes are causing slowdowns. See Locate animation bottlenecks with the Profiler.

To exclude a node from evaluation

  1. Select the node.
  2. In the Attribute Editor > Node Behavior section, turn on the Frozen option.

This turns off the evaluation of the selected node.

Note: Node freezing is limited to the Evaluation Manager Serial and Parallel modes, while Legacy DG mode computes the way it always has, regardless of any frozen state settings. See the Evaluation section of the Preferences window (Windows > Settings/Preferences > Animation category).

See the Evaluation Toolkit for more tools to increase scene performance.
