Issue:

Can newer versions of files be saved as previous versions of files in Inventor?

Causes:

Inventor is a feature-based, parametric CAD system. Features change each release with new enhancements. Previous releases of Inventor do not support these enhancements. Previous releases of Inventor cannot open files in newer release formats with the full feature-based parametric intelligence. The only transferrable data is the existing body or geometry, which can be parametrically linked with Inventor AnyCAD functionality.

Solution:

Recommended workflows when working with different Inventor versions

Check the following workflow:

  • Model Files - Save the file to another 3D file format (IGES or STEP) from Inventor. These formats can be opened in previous versions.
  • Drawing Files - Save the drawing as a DXF or DWF in an earlier version compatible with the previous version of Inventor.
