Questions & Answers for Customers About Autodesk Infrastructure Map Server End of Sale/End of Life
1. What is the future of the Autodesk Infrastructure Map Server product?
Autodesk has made the difficult decision to discontinue Autodesk Infrastructure Map Server (AIMS) as a standalone product. With this decision, we intend to collaborate with other industry leaders who can better support your geospatial/mapping solution requirements, allowing us to focus on enhancing your mapping to design workflows by working on solution offerings with improved integration between GIS and BIM. As such, the current release of Autodesk Infrastructure Map Server (AIMS), AIMS 2017, is the last release of that product. Since that release, no updates or enhancements have been delivered and no new release versions are planned in the future.
Here is what you should know:
As of January 7, 2018 (AIMS End of Sale)
As of January 2019 (AIMS End of Life)
2. Why are we discontinuing AIMS?
Autodesk has endeavored to simplify our Infrastructure product offerings. Our objective is to help improve your web mapping-to-design workflows as well as make it easier for you to choose the right Autodesk design solution for your needs. With this decision, we are able to better collaborate with leaders in the GIS field. And, it enables us to better focus on delivering technologies that improve the exchange of data and information between GIS tools and our BIM design solutions. It strengthens our ability to enable more connected GIS+BIM workflows, putting data at the center throughout the lifecycle of a project.
3. Given these changes with AIMS, what alternatives do I have to continue to support my web mapping requirements?
We encourage you to explore InfraWorks and BIM 360 to help address your web-based mapping, design and collaboration requirements. Along with the other software in the Autodesk AEC Collection, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and AutoCAD Map 3D, InfraWorks and BIM 360 provides a broad set of tools to help enhance infrastructure projects from planning, design, construction and maintenance.
Special Offer from Esri
Another consideration is this offer from Esri. With the recently announced collaboration between Autodesk and Esri, Esri is making a special offer available to AIMS customers.
Between January 7, 2018 through December 31, 2018, Esri will provide no-cost ArcGIS Enterprise Standard and ArcGIS Desktop Standard software, access to free training and Living Atlas of the World content to get you started with ArcGIS. This is a free one-time offer for the license and the license will fall under Esri’s standard maintenance program the following year.
If you are interested in this offer, you can learn more by visiting this page and please do contact Esri directly for more information.
4. What are the implications for AutoCAD Map 3D?
AIMS 2017 is compatible with its “counterpart”, AutoCAD Map 3D 2018. We intend to make every effort to ensure that AIMS will continue to work with future releases of AutoCAD Map 3D.
AutoCAD Map 3D continues to be the Autodesk solution for customers who want broad access to CAD and GIS data to support planning, design, and data management workflows. Considering that AutoCAD Map 3D serves as a foundational component to AutoCAD Civil 3D and InfraWorks, we are committed to continuing to provide AutoCAD Map 3D as a 3D platform, content provider, and web mapping content manager.
We also recognize that you extract the most value from the core modeling, mapping, drafting and documentation capabilities of our AutoCAD-based solutions, including AutoCAD Map 3D. We are committed to continue to support this product with the delivery of enhancements via new releases (with capabilities inherited from AutoCAD), along with continued support for updates and fixes.
We encourage you to feel secure with subscribing to and renewing their current subscriptions of AutoCAD Map 3D.
5. With the EOS/EOL of AIMS, what will happen to the MapGuide Open Source project?
The MapGuide Open Source project is part of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation and as such follows the governance structure of the foundation. Going forward, while Autodesk intends to continue to support the project, contributions may be diminished.
6. With the EOS/EOL of AIMS, what will happen to FDO and CSMap OSGEO Open Source Projects?
FDO and CSMap OSGEO Open Source Projects are important components for many of Autodesk’s products like AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Map 3D and Infraworks. Autodesk remains fully committed to support these open source projects.
7. Whom should I contact if I have more questions?
For questions related to the Autodesk and Esri collaboration and MOU, contact Eric DesRoche, Infrastructure Business Strategy Manager.
For questions regarding the AIMS EOS/EOL, contact Bobby del Rosario Product Marketing Manager.
