3Dconnexion SpaceMouse does not orbit, pan, or zoom correctly in Fusion

Issue:

Users reported that 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse does not work as expected in Fusion on a Windows computer. One or more of the following may occur:
  • Orbit, pan, or zoom does not work as expected.
  • The joystick functions do not work.
  • Unable to rotate or orbit in sketch. The camera autorotates and locks the view. 
  • The left mouse button doesn't work when Fusion is turned on. 
  • Cannot rotate or tilt in the 3D PCB editor after installing Spacemouse driver update.
  • 3D mouse always rotates the model around a distant point.

Environment:

  • 3Dconnexion device.
  • Windows 10 64-bit.

Solution:

Check the 3Dconnexion Advanced Settings 

  1. Install the latest 3Dconnexion drivers (this includes full support for Sketch Lock on/off). 
  2. Open the 3Dconnexion settings.
    • Note: It is necessary to have Fusion open behind the 3Dconnexion Home menu as it will auto select the settings menu depending on what program is open behind it.
  3. In Navigation Modes, Untick Lock Horizon (if necessary).

  1. Go to Advanced settings. 
  2. Navigate to the Other tab. 
  3. Check the following settings and make sure that Sketch Lock is disabled. This will enable supported devices to take advantage of full Fusion command integration/customization.

  1. If the mouse is not rotating around certain axes, turn off horizon lock (3Dconnexion Home > Settings > Advanced settings). 
  2. If issues still occur, perform a clean uninstall of 3DxWare and reinstall before performing the settings changed. 

Set the Default Orbit type to Free Orbit

  1. From the top right corner of Fusion, click your profile icon. 
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Set the Default Orbit type to Free Orbit.

Use Legacy Drivers

  1. From the top right corner of Fusion, click your profile icon. 
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Set SpaceMouse driver to Legacy.​​​​​

  4. Click Apply.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart Fusion for the preference to take effect. 
Note: To be able to take advantage of full support for the 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse, upgrade your SpaceMouse to a newer model which can support 3Dconnexion's SDK 4 or higher.
