Issue:

Users reported that when attempting to change the opacity of a body in Fusion, it does not work as expected.

This may look like:

  • The opacity may change but when the file is next opened it will return to the original opacity setting.
  • The opacity may be changed to 100% but there are still parts visible behind the body.
  • Opacity may be changed to 100% but the body does not appear to change visibility at all.

Causes:

  • Active component visibility is turned on.
  • Component opacity is greater than the body opacity and is overriding the body setting.
  • The appearance or material applied to the body is translucent.
  • The body is a linked external component file.
  • There is a sheet metal body in the file that is unfolded.

Solution:

Disable the Active Component Visibility preference

Body opacity definitions are not applied to individual bodies when the Active Component Visibility preference is enabled. Since the body in question belongs to the currently active component.
  1. Select the user icon in the top right corner of Fusion.
  2. Go to preferences.
  3. In the 'General' tab, go to 'Design'.
  4. Disable "Active component visibility".
Active component visibility preference

Reset Component Opacity

The component opacity value might be greater than the body opacity.

Remove translucent appearances and materials

Some appearances and materials have refractive or translucent effects.
  • Remove any appearances and materials that have been applied to see if they are interfering with the opacity control.
  • Edit applied appearances and materials to remove the refractive or translucent effects:
Translucency depth

Change the opacity of linked/inserted components

Linked or inserted designs need to be edited in the source file in Fusion.

Refold any unfolded sheet metal components

  1. Activate the sheet metal component in the assembly.
  2. Click Refold to refold the sheet metal part.
  3. Activate the main component in the assembly.
