Before upgrading to any macOS version, please:

  • Archive your Flame Family (Smoke DS) projects
  • Backup your computer
  • Reboot your computer

1. Are Flame Family applications supported on macOS High Sierra?

Yes, applications starting from Flame Family 2017 SP1 (Smoke DS 2017 SP3) will run on macOS High Sierra. However, please refer to the System Requirements pages for official certification statements per Software version.

2. Will I be able to run Flame Family applications older than 2017 SP1 (Smoke DS 2017 SP3) on macOS High Sierra?

No.  Flame Family applications older than 2017 SP1 (Smoke DS 2017 SP3) are not supported on macOS High Sierra.

3. Is there something to be done before upgrading to macOS High Sierra?

Yes, you should run the Flame Family macOS High Sierra Preparation Tool (see attachment) before upgrading to macOS High Sierra.  This tool will uninstall Flame Family applications older than 2017 SP1 (Smoke DS 2017 SP3) and prepare your computer to make sure your Flame Family applications work after the macOS upgrade. Note that projects, users, and other data will be preserved.

4. What if I upgraded to macOS High Sierra without running the Flame Family macOS High Sierra Preparation Tool?

If you upgraded to macOS High Sierra without running the Flame Family macOS High Sierra Preparation Tool, and your Flame Family application does not start, you will need to recover the missing content (projects, users, installed Flame Family applications, etc.) by running the Flame Family macOS High Sierra Recovery Tool (see attachment).

5. Is Autodesk Flame Family Central Install client supported on macOS High Sierra?

No. Central Install clients are not supported on macOS High Sierra.  If you wish to run Central Install, you should stay on macOS Sierra (10.12) or earlier.

6. Will the Sparks plug-ins run on macOS High Sierra?

A number of Sparks developers have updated their product installers (or installation guides) to make sure their plug-ins work properly on macOS High Sierra. Make sure to use their recommended or latest versions.
