What

Terrain modeling is always one of the most important aspects of an infrastructure project. It influences many design choices, such as alignment position and civil structure.

Who

Surveyors.

How

The classic workflow for terrain modeling involves these steps:

  1. Data acquisition. Use Civil 3D and ReCap to manage input data for:
    1. Cloud surveys;
    2. Ascii files;
    3. 3D Objects ( line, point or faces any 3D CAD object )
  2.  Modeling of the terrain surface. Use Civil 3D to create models according to the TIN (triangulated irregular network) structure, including both vector and raster data.
  3. Definition of typical representations of the terrain model. Represent terrain aspects with elements such as point, triangle, contour, or a combination of these elements.
  4. Sharing of results. Render results in native DWG format or as exportable LandXML files.

Tip: With Civil 3D styles, you can define representations that allow changing terrain model components with one click.

Why

By working with only one dynamic model, you can save time and reduce rework.

What next

Use BIM 360 to bring a Civil 3D surface into Revit.
