Surface Wrapping

Use Autodesk® Surface Wrap to surface wrap a model, add an external volume, and generate a quality mesh for transfer into Autodesk® CFD. You can easily generate a mesh for CAD models that might otherwise be difficult or impossible to mesh without extensive CAD cleanup. Currently, Surface Wrap meshes are appropriate for external flow analyses or wind tunnel type models.

Note: Surface Wrap does not support 2D models.

Surface Wrap Workflow

  1. Set up your model in the wind tunnel.
    • Click Surface Wrap Configure External Volume.
    • Size the volume using the appropriate dialog options.
    • Click Close to exit the dialog.
  2. Use Surface Wrap Configure Resolution Factor to set the appropriate level of detail for your surface mesh. Notable highlights:
    • High values gives you a mesh that closely represents the physical model.
    • Lower values result in a faster, but coarser mesh.
  3. Click Surface Wrap Wrap Generate Wrap to create your surface mesh.
  4. Click Surface Wrap Continue Transfer Wrap to Setup to transfer your mesh to CFD and continue with model preparation.
