Problem:

Option file menu is grayed out and you can't make any changes.

Solution:

  1. Close AutoCAD
  2. Click the Start button.
  3. In the Start Menu, either in the Run Box or the Search box, type Regedit and press Enter. In Windows 8, you can type Regedit on the Start screen and select the Regedit option in the search results. In Windows 10, type Regedit in the Search box on the taskbar and press Enter.
  4. If prompted by User Account Control, click Yes to open the Registry Editor.
  5.  Search for TRUSTEDPATHS under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\RXXX\ACAD-0001.409\Variables.   If found, remove the "Owner" String.  That should enable the OPTIONS dialog edits.

Warning!
Problems caused by improperly editing the Windows registry could render your computer operating system unusable. Microsoft provides a wealth of critical information that you need to know about the registry in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Use the Microsoft Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after backing up the registry as outlined for your operating system in the Microsoft article How to back up and restore the registry in Windows and in the related solution How to backup the system registry. Additional information about the registry is also contained in the Help topics in the Microsoft Registry Editor.
