Issue:

When opening a drawing in AutoCAD, it displays one or more text objects using a different font than expected. The font type may or may not be currently available on the system. Also, opening the same file on a different system or in a different AutoCAD version may display the correct font.

In the text style window, a yellow rectangle might be shown next to the selected font:

Causes:

  • The missing SHX font is being automatically replaced with a different one.
  • TrueType Font is missing on the environment.

Solution:

Do one or more of the following:
  • Check the FONTALT system variable.
    1. Type FONTALT and press Enter.
    2. Type . (PERIOD) and press Enter.
    3. Close AutoCAD and start it again.
  • Check the FONTMAP system variable.
    1. Type FONTMAP and press Enter.
    2. Check the settings to confirm the fonts are not being affected.
  • Check if the TrueType font is available in C:\Windows\Fonts. If not, copy the font from a different computer or download/install it again from its original source.
