Issue:

When plotting in AutoCAD using a PC3 file the plot comes out, out of scale, off the center of the page, or just not the right size.

Solution:

To fix this issue, uninstall the printer and install it with the latest drivers:

  1. Go to Devices and Printers in Windows and right click on the printer in question.  Click 'Remove Device' from the drop down menu.

  • If this is a network printer, make sure the IP address is known before removing the printer as this will be needed to reconnect.

  1. Search online for the latest drivers for the printer and download them to the desktop.  Feel free to extract them and place them in a folder.

  2. Next, go back to the Devices and Printers page and click on add a printer in the upper left hand corner.

  3. A window will appear and choose the last option at the bottom "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings".

  4. It is necessary to choose a printing port for a network printer.  On the drop down look for the IP address from step 1.  If it is not there, feel free to enter it in the create a new port option.

  5. On the Install the printer driver page, choose the model of the printer you downloaded the drivers for.

  6. Once selected, then click the "Have a disk" option in the lower right below printers.

  7. On the Install from disk window that appears, click "Browse" and navigate to where the recently downloaded drivers are stored.

  • This will search for an INF setup file.  Once found, select the INF file and click open. Then click OK back on the Install from disk window.

  1. Now chose the specific model number of the printer that you have and will be installing.

  2. Then click Next twice. Sharing this printer is optional.  This will not affect how the printer works.

  3. Wait for the drivers to install and then click Finish.

  4. The printer should now be displayed on the Devices and Printers menu.

  5. Now open AutoCAD or the vertical being used and bring up the plotting menu. The printer should be seen now on the drop down list when choosing available printers.

Note:

  • All of these steps can be seen in this video.  Although printer in the video is an HP, these steps apply for any printer.
