Extra drawing lines show up in PDF plotted to Adobe PDF from AutoCAD

Issue:

When plotting to PDF from AutoCAD using the Adobe PDF printer, extra lines show up in the output. Examples are hidden elements/lines, duplicates of existing lines, or lines that appear to show through from behind others. They may or may not be in the drawing or show up in the plot preview. 

For example:

Solution:

Do the following:
  • Change the system variable HIDEPRECISION to 1 in AutoCAD and/or lower the resolution of the Adobe PDF driver:
  1. Exit AutoCAD.
  2. From the Start menu, open up Devices and Printers.
  3. Right-click Adobe PDF and choose "Printer Preferences."
  4. Click the Layout tab and then the Advanced button.
  5. Change the Print Quality to 600 or 300 dpi and then click OK.
  6. Under Page Display uncheck, Enhance thin lines & Smooth line art
  • Update or reinstall the driver from the Adobe website. 
  • Use one of the AutoCAD PDF drivers such as AutoCAD PDF (General Documentation).
