AutoCAD 2017 user based licene activation is asking for a serial number

Issue:

You purchased AutoCAD 2017 user based subscription, but when starting the program it opens in a trial mode and asks for a serial number to activate.

Causes:

This issue could occur if you used AutoCAD 2017 trial before purchasing the product. 

Solution:

AutoCAD 2017 user based subscription doesn't require a serial number as the product license is linked to your Autodesk account.
To resolve the issue, follow steps below:
  1. Delete C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\001I1_2017.0.0.F\LGS.data file
  2. Start AutoCAD 2017
  3. Select Sign In option on Let's Get Started window

Alternatively you can also open above mentioned LGS.data file in Notepad and edit its content, change _STANDALONE with _USER and save the file.  Please make sure, when saving the file it doesn't pick up a hidden .txt extension.
