About Saving and Restoring Views

A named view is created with the VIEW or NEWVIEW command, and consists of a specific magnification, location, and orientation.

In each drawing session, you can restore up to 10 previous views displayed in each viewport using ZOOM Previous, but these views don't persist between sessions. Named views and cameras (not available in AutoCAD LT) are saved with a drawing and can be used any time. When you are composing a layout, you can specify a named view or a camera to a layout viewport on the layout.

Save Views

When you name and save a view, the following settings are saved:

• The location of the view, either on the Model tab or a specific layout tab
• The magnification, center point, and view direction
• The current user coordinate system (UCS)
• The layer visibility settings in the drawing at the time the view is saved (optional)
• A View Category (optional)
• 3D perspective (not available in AutoCAD LT)
• Live section (not available in AutoCAD LT)
• Visual style (not available in AutoCAD LT)
• Background (not available in AutoCAD LT)

Restore a Named View

You can use named views to do the following:

• Restore a view that you use frequently while working in model space.
• Restore a view on a layout that is zoomed into an area of interest on the layout.
• Specify or restore a model-space view in a layout viewport.
