In some versions of AutoCAD, the model and layout tabs are toggled off by default. In addition, the Layout and Model Tabs display may have been manually toggled off or turned off by running a lisp file or a sequence of commands. Let’s explore how we can turn those back on. The easiest way is to type LAYOUTTAB and the command prompt and cycle between 1 and 0 as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: LAYOUTTAB Variable
To toggle the model and layout tabs back on via the Ribbon navigate to the View Tab > Interface Panel > Layout Tabs. Here you can turn the layout tabs on and off via the Ribbon.
You can also type options at the command prompt to bring up the Options dialog box. Under the Display tab you will find the Display layout and Model tabs at the bottom left of the dialog box. Check on and off for your preference.
Have you ever wanted to remove the default Layout1 and Layout2 tabs? The following screencast will show you how to create a macro to remove those tabs with the click of a mouse button.
