Issue:

When opening either the panel or schematic icon menu in AutoCAD Electrical, the icons appear all the same (generic).

generic menu icons

Causes:

  • The source image files are not found in the same folder as the menu (DAT) file.
  • The variables in the environment (WD.ENV) file for icon menu path overrides point to a different folder than expected.

Solution:

For most of the default icons in the icon menus, the source of the images is a combination of DLL and SLB files. Examples are S2.SLB and S2.DLLl. These files must be in the folder which contains the menu resource (.DAT) file. The default location is the the current user's AutoCAD Electrical support folder. For custom icon image files, their paths can be edited with the Icon Menu Wizard so that they point to where the image files reside.

The variables WD_MENU and WD_PMENU in the WD.ENV file redirect AutoCAD Electrical to look in a specified directory for the icon menu (.DAT) files. The WD_SLB variable tells the program where to find slide library (.SLB) files. Those 3 variables lines are commented out (*) by default, but if they're not, it could help to determine why the menu files and the source files for the images aren't being located correctly.
