Installing 3ds MAX Interactive clears the serial number designated

Issue:

A deployment for 3ds MAX Interactive clears the serial number designated in a 3ds MAX 2018 deployment. 

After installing 3ds MAX 2018 from a deployment configured to use a Standalone license serial number, the normal behavior when 3ds MAX is opened for the first time is for the product to immediately attempt an activation based on the serial number specified within the deployment configuration. 

If 3ds MAX Interactive is installed before 3ds MAX 2018 is opened and activated for the first time, the serial number used for the 3ds MAX installation is cleared and requires the user to reenter it. 

Solution:

There are several possible solutions.
  1. Run and activate 3ds MAX 2018 before installing 3ds MAX Interactive.
  2. Make a backup copy of productinformation.pit file after 3ds MAX 2018 has been installed. Restore the PIT file after 3ds MAX Interactive is installed. If you are trying to create deployments for a large number of machines, it may be possible to create a script to perform the following:
  • Install (deploy) 3ds MAX 2018
  • Backup the PIT file
  • Install 3ds MAX Interactive 
  • Restore the PIT file
