Issue:

How to disable the yellow or blue highlights when hovering over or selecting objects in the 3ds Max Viewports.

Note: These highlights only display in 3ds Max when using the default Nitrous Viewport drivers. For more information, please see the Display Performance Panel (Nitrous).

Solution:

To disable this option go to Customize > Preferences > Viewports tab and deselect "Selection/Preview Highlights."

If you still wish to differentiate between selected and non-selected objects with selection/preview highlights disabled, do the following:
  1. Navigate to the Viewport Configuration dialog. To do this click [+] > Configure Viewports... > Visual Style & Appearance tab
  2. Check the "Selection Brackets" checkbox.
  3. Objects will now have the traditional selection brackets around them (option is Viewport/scene-dependent.)
  4. The hotkey "J" may also be used to enable or disable Selection Brackets.
