Summary

With Licensing Service Update v11.0.0.4854, a file integrity check has been added to the licensing workflow that requires few root certificates on the user machine. Unavailability of these certificates would cause licensing failures upon launching the product.

Who could be impacted by this change?

  • Any end-users who may not have the below-mentioned root certificates would run into licensing failures upon product launch.
  • A newly commissioned Windows 7 machine on an offline environment or a security restrictive environment, it is likely that these certificates may not be present on their machine, causing licensing failures.

Typically for Windows 8 and Windows 10 users in a connected and unrestricted environment, the operating system automatically downloads the required certificates. Hence, most of the Windows 8 or Windows 10 customers would not experience this issue.

Here are the certificates which licensing file verification checks rely upon:

  1. VeriSign Universal Root CA
  2. VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary CA - G5
  3. USERTrust RSA CA
  4. Thawte Timestamping CA
  5. Globalsign Root CA

To check the installed Trusted Root Certificates on the local computer, follow these steps:

  1. In the Windows Search box, type mmc and then click OK
  2. On the File menu of Console 1, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
  3. In the Add or Remove snap-ins dialog box, under Available snap-ins select Certificates, and then click Add.
  4. In the Certificate snap-in dialog box, select My user account, and click Finish, then OK.
  5. In the Certificate snap-in dialog box, select Computer account, and click Finish, then OK.
  6. Click OK to close the Add or Remove Snap-ins dialog box.
  7. Under Console Root, expand Certificates – Current User  > Trusted Root Certification Authorities > Certificates to see the installed certificates.
  8. Under Console Root, expand Certificates (Local Computer) > Trusted Root Certification Authorities > Certificates to see the installed certificates.
Console dialog box showing certificates path.

Resolution

  1. Download the Autodesk Licensing Certificate Installer (ALCI).
  2. Install the Autodesk Licensing Certificate Installer. (This installer will place all the required certificates mentioned above on your machine.)
    Licensing certification approval box.
  3. Restart your Autodesk Product.

Troubleshooting

If for some reason after installing the required root certificates, your Autodesk software still displays above mentioned licensing error messages, reinstall the certificates as follows:

  1. Uninstall
    • Double-click on autodesk-licensing-certificate-installer.msi file and select Uninstall from the context menu.
  2. Re-install
    • Install the Autodesk Licensing Certificate Installer by double-clicking on the downloaded autodesk-licensing-certificate-installer.msi file.
