Solution:

As more customers have moved to industry-specific suites, Autodesk has decided to end the sale of new Autodesk® AutoCAD Design Suite perpetual and Desktop Subscription licenses on February 1, 2016. This document provides common questions and answers about this change.

What product versions are affected?

Autodesk plans to discontinue the new sales of all versions of AutoCAD Design Suite globally: Standard, Premium, and Ultimate; new perpetual and Desktop Subscription licenses; in all languages.

Why is Autodesk discontinuing the sale of new licenses of AutoCAD Design Suite?

In evaluating our portfolio of products, we identified that industry-specific suites and standalone Autodesk® AutoCAD® software meet the range of our global customer needs. We therefore decided to discontinue the sale of AutoCAD Design Suite.

When will the end of sales of new licenses be effective?

New AutoCAD Design Suite perpetual and Desktop Subscription licenses will end on February 1, 2016. At that time, Autodesk will no longer offer the option to purchase a new software license of AutoCAD Design Suite.

What does this mean for customers who previously purchased a perpetual license?

Customers who have purchased a perpetual license of AutoCAD Design Suite will be able to continue using that version of software indefinitely.

What does this mean for Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers?

If you have a Maintenance or Desktop Subscription contract, Autodesk will continue to deliver updates, support, and other Subscription benefits to you so long as you renew your contract. You can also continue to access older versions of AutoCAD Design Suite during the term of your subscription. Refer to the Previous Version Eligibility Lists for eligibility. Finally, if you’re considering a move to an industry-specific suite or to standalone AutoCAD, contact your Autodesk sales or channel sales representative.

What alternate solutions does Autodesk recommend for customers interested in purchasing new seats of AutoCAD Design Suite?

  • For architectural workflows, Autodesk® Building Design Suite software has the same software options available plus additional options for BIM workflows.
  • For conceptual design workflows, Autodesk® Product Design Suite software delivers conceptual design capabilities and adds digital prototyping tools.
  • For customers predominately using AutoCAD, a subscription to the software can be a cost effective choice. You may also choose to add other products like Autodesk® 3ds Max® software as needed with Desktop Subscription pay-as-you go options.

The below table provides a simple comparison between these options:

Is Autodesk migrating my AutoCAD Design Suite software to an alternate solution?

For customers who have Maintenance or Desktop Subscription, we are not migrating your software at this time. We are evaluating plans and will update you on these options once they are determined. Please continue to renew your Subscription contract to be eligible for alternate solutions in the future.

How is this end of sale different from the perpetual end of sale announced by Autodesk?

With the end of sale of perpetual licenses Autodesk will continue to make available and sell its portfolio of products via Subscription, typically with a new Desktop Subscription license. With AutoCAD Design Suite, all new purchasing options will be discontinued.

Who can I contact with more questions?

If you have further questions, please contact your Autodesk sales or channel sales representative. You may also submit your question to autocad.design.suite.discontinuation@autodesk.com
