Issue:

How to turn on filename extensions in Windows to know the exact type of files.

Solution:

To make the filename extensions visible in Windows, do the following: 

Windows 8 and 10:
  1. Open File Explorer (open any folder).
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Select "File name extension"
  4. Optionally, you can enable Hidden items.
  5. Filename extensions will now be visible.

Windows 7:
  1. In the Start menu search, type folder options.
  2. In the Folder Options window, click the View tab.
  3. Remove the check from "Hide extensions for known file types."
  4. Click OK.
Note: This same process can be done in Windows 10, searching the Start menu for file explorer options. As an extra alternative, Folder Options can be accessed through the Control Panel.
