To add or modify assembly connectors

Add assembly connectors to your part families so that each part family in a drainage structure assembly can align with related part families.

Assembly connectors are added to drainage structure part families so that the individual part families can fit together properly when they are combined into an assembly. Once you add assembly connectors to a parametric shape model, directional arrows are displayed on the shape. The assembly connectors will be displayed as green arrows when they positioned correctly; invalid assembly connectors will display as red arrows.

  1. Once you have completed your sketch and extrusion in Autodesk Inventor, Click Environments tab Infrastructure Part Shape Utilities Assembly Connector.

The Add Assembly Connector dialog will be displayed.

  2. Input a port name in the Add Assembly Connector dialog. For example, enter Underground Structure Port for a port that will connect a surface structure to an underground structure.
  3. Click the Set Position icon .
    Note:
  4. Click to place the assembly connector on the desired face and/or work plane in your shape model.

Be careful to also specify the proper direction for the assembly connector(s) you add. You can click Change Direction or Flip Direction to modify the design direction for your assembly connectors.

Note: Typically, you will add one to two assembly connectors to each drainage structure part shape in a drainage structure assembly. For example, an underground structure part shape like a catchment basin will normally only need one assembly connector, which will indicate where the bottom of the surface structure connects with the top of the underground structure. Surface structures typically need two assembly connectors: one assembly connector to indicate where the surface structure connects with the underground structure, and another assembly connector to indicate where the surface structure connects with a grate or cover.
  5. Click OK.
  6. If you make modifications to your part shape model that cause the work planes or faces to move after you already added assembly connector(s), the assembly connectors will become invalid, and will be displayed as red arrows. In this case, you will need to remove and re-add the assembly connectors after all modifications to the part shape are finished.
