Download Overview for Educational Institutions
Information about how educational institutions can download, install, and activate software obtained through the Autodesk Education Community.
General
Available Software
The Autodesk Education Community provides products for the current version and two versions back. Click Free Software on the left menu for a list of the products you can download.
Mac products: Currently, the Education Community offers Mac versions, such as AutoCAD for Mac, Alias Automotive, Alias Design, Alias Autostudio, Mudbox, Sketchbook Pro for Enterprise, Maya, and Smoke. Some Windows products such as Inventor Professional, 3ds Max, 3ds Max Design, and Revit can be run on a Mac using the Boot Camp utility.
Linux products: Not available.
Multi-seat Stand-alone Versus Network
-
A multi-seat stand-alone license supports a specific number of devices, allowing you to install, register, and activate one or more products on several computers using a single serial number. Network connectivity is not required to run the software.
-
Network licenses are ideal for large organizations that require many individuals to access and use Autodesk software from multiple locations. They require a server and network connectivity to distribute licenses.

Download Options
Educational institutions have a choice of download methods:
-
Download and Install Education Products - Learn the difference between using the Download Now method, Install Now method, or using a browser.
-
Autodesk Account - If you download the most recent, or current, version of a product, your educational institution automatically receives a maintenance plan. Although you can continue to download software from the Education Community site, you may find it beneficial to use Autodesk Account to manage all your software and licensing needs. To ensure the software is displayed in Account, you need to register it using registeronce.
Preparing to Download and Install
You can use this Download Checklist:
-
Check System Requirements (such as graphics card and RAM) and select the version that will fulfill minimum system requirement to install and run the product successfully.
-
Check the space available on the drive.
-
Check internet speed and connectivity. A slow internet speed needs more time to download.
-
Disable firewall, pop-up blockers and antivirus programs to prevent file corruption.
-
Check browser settings.

Installing from physical media
The Education Community site offers free software licenses by
download only. Although downloading over a slow connection can take
a long time, our download manager can resume from where it stopped
if you disconnect before the download completes.
If you obtained the most recent, or current, version of a product,
your educational institution automatically receives a maintenance
plan. You may also request physical media to be shipped to you (for
a fee) which takes several weeks.
Installation
A deployment provides an efficient way to install one or more
products with a standard configuration to multiple computers. The
files required for the installation process are stored on the
network in an administrative image, in a folder to which all users
have shared access. To install the products, users navigate to the
deployment folder and double-click the installer shortcut (.LNK
file).
