About Download Methods

Comparison of Download Methods

There are three download methods available in Autodesk Account to best suit your installation needs and internet-connection speed. Available methods vary depending on which product, version and operating system you select (for example, browser download is the only option available for Macintosh).

When to use	Fastest method. Complete download, install, and activation in one session.	Efficient, customizable method. You want to install or deploy - At a later time - On multiple computers or devices.	Slowest method. Use when other download methods are not available.

Download utility	Uses Autodesk Download Manager (DLM).	Uses Autodesk Download Manager (DLM).	Uses standard Web browser download features.
Process	Decompresses and installs as it downloads. Enters your serial number and product key for automatic activation.	Decompresses product files during the download. Eliminates the file extraction step after download and before installation.	Downloaded file sizes are larger than for other methods. May be broken into multiple file downloads. Can be uncompressed and installed only after all downloads are complete.

How to Set Your Default Download Method

Windows users can set a download preference in their Autodesk Account. On the upper-right corner of the Management tab, select the Settings gear to access the setting.
