Combine Educational Institution Licenses with Different Serial Numbers

It is possible to add licenses with different serial numbers to the same license server.  But remember: multiple licenses for the same product and version (for example, 1250 licenses of AutoCAD 2015 and an additional 1250 licenses of AutoCAD 2015) should not be combined in the same license file. Unless they were issued with the same date stamp, a newer license will supersede an older license for the same product and version, leaving you with only the newest licenses being available.

To combine licenses, you must generate (issue) all the licenses on the same date.

  1. Get all your serial numbers
  2. Generate the licenses on the same day
  3. Combine the licenses into one master file
  4. Check the result

1. Get all your serial numbers.

You can find your serial numbers in several places, including Free Software tab of Autodesk Education Community, the emails you receive when you download, and in Autodesk Account.

See: Find Serial Numbers and Product Keys for Educational Licenses

2. Generate the licenses on the same day.

To avoid losing access to licenses as a result of combining license files, contact Autodesk Support and request a new license file that includes all of the licenses you want to combine. This new license file will have a single issue date for all product licenses, which prevents any of them from superseding earlier licenses.

See: Requesting a Network License File

Explanation:  Autodesk issues a license file for each product or products you activate. If you later activate more products, Autodesk issues a license file for the new set of products. Combining the two license files enables you to run all the products on the same network. The issue date in each license file is important. If the two license files contain different issue dates, and some products exist in both files, the versions issued earlier will be superseded by the later versions, reducing the total number of licenses.

3. Combine the licenses into one master file.

Use a text editor such as Notepad to manually combine the licenses into one file.

See: Combining License files for Multiple Autodesk Products

4. Check the result

Use the utility at www.licenseparser.com to check the results.

Uploading a license file generates a license report that contains:

  • License file name
  • License type
  • Computer/ Host name
  • Mac address / Host ID
  • Specified port

You can also confirm the number seats issued, serial number issue date, and the expiration date for each product.
