Perpetual License Changes Information
Existing Perpetual Licenses
Previously purchased perpetual licenses remain valid and are not impacted by Autodesk's change to a subscription model. If you purchased a perpetual license to Autodesk software, you can continue to use your software per your software license agreement.
Installation and Activation:
You can install and activate your perpetual license software on new
computers according to the terms of your
software license agreement. We recommend that you record your
serial number
and save a backup copy of your installation files. To save full
installation files from Autodesk Account, use Download
Now or Browser
Download. License
transfer from one computer to another is also available to
activate your software on a new computer.
Maintenance Plans
If you have an active maintenance plan, your benefits continue as
long as you continue to renew. After Autodesk discontinues the sale
of perpetual licenses for a product, you will only be able to
renew your maintenance plan for previously-purchased
perpetual licenses. No new perpetual licenses may be added
to new or existing maintenance plans.
If your maintenance plan expires, you can continue using your
perpetual licenses. However, you will lose maintenance benefits
such as updates, access to previous versions, technical product
support, flexible license rights, and access to select cloud
services.
Version Rights
You retain perpetual license rights for the most recent version
installed and activated under your maintenance plan. For example,
if you originally purchased a 2014 version of your software but
upgraded to the 2016 version while your maintenance plan was
active, you retain perpetual license rights to the 2016 version
after your maintenance plan ends. Download installation files and
record your activation information for the most recent version
activated under your maintenance plan for future use.
Transfer of Ownership
The process for requesting a transfer of ownership of licenses from
one legal entity to another is not changing. See
Transferring Ownership of Autodesk Licenses for more
information.
Subscriptions
New licenses for Autodesk software are now available by subscription. Subscription and perpetual license versions of Autodesk software are the same, only the licensing method is different. To purchase a new product, or add seats to an existing one, subscriptions are available online from the Autodesk store or an Authorized Reseller. Visit the Autodesk Subscription page for benefit details.
Term Lengths
Subscriptions are available in a variety of terms ranging from
monthly to multi-year terms depending on the product and the
seller. Buy online
or an Authorized
Resellers for information about software availability,
subscription terms, and pricing.
Renewal and Cancellation
Most subscriptions renew automatically to ensure continuous access
to your software. You can cancel your subscription at the end of
the subscription term by turning off automatic renewal in your
Autodesk Account. See
Manage Subscription Renewals for information.
Activation and Internet Connectivity
An internet connection is required to activate subscription
software and verify subscription status during the first use. After
initial activation, you can work offline for up to 30 days before
your subscription software will require an internet connection to
verify active subscription status. Your software reminds you 7 days
before requiring an internet connection before it will stop working
offline.
- Activation through Proxy Servers: If your
company routes internet traffic through a proxy server (standard
proxy or an authenticated, password-protected proxy), you can
whitelist Autodesk authentication servers to ensure continuous
software access. See these articles for information:
Proxy server settings changes required to unblock Autodesk A360 services
Subscription Licensing Error: "Establish an Internet connection to continue" - Activation through Network License Servers: If your company completely disables internet traffic by blocking ports 443 (HTTPS) and 80 (HTTP), you can purchase a subscription with multi-user access, which does not require internet access and allows your users to activate and share licenses through a network license server. See Network Licensing below for more information.
Network Licensing
If you purchase a subscription with multi-user access, you can
generate a network license file and use network license servers to
activate your software on a network. These can be combined with
perpetual licenses in the same license file, utilize the same
network license manager tools, and support the same license server
setup options.
If a subscription with multi-user access expires, your network
license server will recognize this and issue a different license
from the pool if available. See
Network License Administration for information.
Accessing Files after Subscriptions End
If your subscription term ends and your Autodesk software becomes
inactive, Autodesk provides free file viewers you can use to view,
copy, and print your project files. See Autodesk Viewers
for information about free file viewers.
