Who is Eligible for an Individual Educational License?


Students and educators have free access to Autodesk software subject to Educational stand-alone licenses through the Autodesk Education Community.

  • Participants must study or be employed at a “Qualified Educational Institution” and may only use these licenses on a personal device for purposes directly related to learning, teaching, training, research, or development.  
  • Mentors or competitors in an Autodesk-sponsored competition may also be eligible.
  • Students must be 13 years of age or older to use the Education Community.

Note: You may be required to provide proof that you satisfy one or more of these eligibility requirements.


Students

An individual person enrolled as a student at an educational institution which has been accredited by an authorized governmental agency within its applicable local, state, provincial, federal, or national government and has the primary purpose of teaching its enrolled students.

This includes students who are participating in the following:

  • Thesis and masters work -  Students who are conducting their masters or thesis work may use the Autodesk software obtained through the Education Community for these purposes. This also includes project topics that may have been provided by an industry partner under the condition that the activity forms part of the student’s degree.
  • Apprenticeship work (Austria, Germany, Switzerland and United Kingdom)- To enable students who are participating in a company apprenticeship scheme to practice, students have the right to a second installation of the Autodesk license on a company machine, provided that certain conditions are met. See:  Licensing Options for Organizations that are Not Qualified Educational Institutions, "Training of Apprentices."

 


Educators or Faculty Members

An employee or independent contractor who has the primary purpose of teaching enrolled students at an educational institution that has been accredited by an authorized governmental agency within its applicable local, state, provincial, federal, or national government.

 


Autodesk-sponsored competition mentor or competitor

An Autodesk-sponsored design competition mentor is an individual who provides guidance, advice, coaching, or instruction to competitors engaged in competing in an Autodesk-sponsored design competition. A competitor is a student or other individual who is registered and accepted or otherwise approved by a design competition organizer as a competition participant. The following roles are not eligible for access to free Education software:

  • Course participants at training centers and re-training programs - Course participants at training centers are not considered to be enrolled students. Given that training centers and re-training programs are not considered to be qualified educational institutions. Users attending such courses are therefore not eligible to access the Autodesk Education Community. Autodesk licensing options for practice purposes includes a full 30-day trial version of the software that can be downloaded on Autodesk’s website or provision of an Autodesk Subscription Home license by your employer.
     
  • Professional instructors - Professional instructors who work for an Authorized Training Center (ATC), an Autodesk reseller, an independent training provider, or as freelancers are not eligible to access the Autodesk Education Community. These individuals may be able to access Autodesk software licensed to an ATC by which they are employed, to a membership organization to which they are a member, or by purchasing Autodesk commercial software licenses.
