Issue:

Remote Flame workstations can be seen in the host selection in the Project menu and in MediaHub, but are unable to see/load the Framestore or browse the remote projects in the same network or different subnets.

Other symptoms may include:
  • The localhost's project can be seen on the remote machine but not the other way around.
  • The remote host's files can be seen under the Files tab.
  • The remote project can be browsed but the clip's thumbnail is empty.
  • The following error may appear in the shell log:
"Error scanning for projects: No such file or directory"

Causes:

Potential causes may include:

  • The Flame Media Storage and /opt/Autodesk are not exported or shared.
  • The Flame Media Storage is exported and configured in /etc/exports but contains a wrong path.
  • NFS is not started or needed to restart after changes with the configurations.
  • /etc/auto_master file is not properly configured or does not include /hosts.

Solution:

To be able to wire projects across Flame, follow and verify the following:
  1. Storage ID (/opt/Autodesk/sw/cfg/sw_storage.cfg) is unique in every workstation in the network.
  2. Flame Media Storage (default: /mnt/StorageMedia) and /opt/Autodesk directories are shared and can be mounted on the remote workstation.
The /etc/exports contains the directory that is shared or exported. The followings are the default shared directories and options for Flame:

On Linux:
/mnt/StorageMedia *(rw,no_subtree_check,async,no_root_squash,insecure)
/opt/Autodesk  *(rw,sync,no_root_squash,insecure)
Note: The /mnt/StorageMedia is the default Media Storage path, modify it accordingly based on the actual path. If the Media Storage directory is different from the default, refer to this article for manual configuration: How to mount and share a media drive across a local network in Flame

On macOS:
/opt/Autodesk -network -maproot=root
  1. Verify that the following line exists in the following configuration files:
On macOS: '/etc/auto_master'.
/hosts -hosts -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
On Linux: "/etc/auto.master
/hosts    -hosts

  1. The Framestore sharing in /opt/Autodesk/sw/cfg/stone+wire.cfg is set according to the following configuration:
For a NAS (Network-Attached Storage) or SAN (Storage Area Network)
  • Shared=true
For local or direct attached:
  • Shared=false (or leave it as default)
  1. Restart the Stone+Wire services in the Terminal or Service Monitor.
  2. Restart the following services and make sure that they have started successfully.
    On Linux:
    systemctl restart nfs.service
    systemctl restart autofs
    systemctl restart rpcbind

Note: For CentOS 8.2, use nfs-server.service. To check the status, replace restart with 'status'.

    On macOS:
    sudo nfsd restart

Note: To check the status, replace restart with 'status'.

Note: On macOS Catalina and newer versions, verify that the Flame services are allowed in Security and Privacy settings, see Full Disk Access (macOS).
