Issue:

What options are available to archive BIM 360 Team data?

Solution:

Data from BIM 360 Team project can be migrated using the tool ART:

  • Autodesk Replication Tool (ART) is a cloud-based application that facilitates copying files from a BIM 360 Team project to an ACC / BIM360 NextGen project or a local drive.

Note the following limitations before applying this solution:

  • Markups and Comments: ART does not transfer markups or comments when replicating the files.
  • Links / XREFs: ART cannot maintain the links while copying the files. The files have to be manually relinked on the target platform.
    • Note: If (and only if) the folder structure is maintained, references to XREFs via relative paths will still resolve successfully.
  • Collaboration and Cloud Models: ART cannot automatically reinitiate Revit Cloud Workshared Models, or collaborated Plant3D files. If original files are updated (e.g., Using Revit and worksharing workflows in Revit Cloud Worksharing (RCW)), those changes cannot be persisted to the transferred copies.

Note for Revit Cloud Worksharing (RCW): Before following the steps below in Option 1 or 2, it is important to ensure that for Revit cloud models, the latest synced version of the model is published to BIM 360 Teams. In this way, the file transferred will be the latest version, and problems related to changes lost can be avoided.

Option 1: Archiving project data from BIM 360 Team to an ACC/ BIM 360 project using ART.

  1. Set up the replication tool for Docs by following the steps given here (Access to BIM 360 or ACC account will be required)
  2. Ensure that access to at least one ACC/ BIM 360 project is provided. (If this is not done, ACC / BIM 360 project will not appear under destination projects in ART)
  3. Create and run a task by following the steps given here

Option 2: Archiving project data from BIM 360 Team to a local drive using ART.

  1. Use the direct download option to download files from your cloud repositories (like BIM 360 Teams) directly to your local computer’s “Downloads” folder.
  2. Follow the steps given here.
Note: To find out if a project is a BIM 360 or a BIM 360 Team project:
  • BIM 360 projects have URLs starting with https://docs.b360.autodesk.com/ or https://docs.b360.eu.autodesk.com/.
  • Access the Help from the question mark icon at the top right of the page.
