To Manage Product Updates with the Application Manager

Review and install product updates and extensions, and uninstall the Application Manager.

Autodesk Application Manager is a cloud-centric software delivery solution. It includes a desktop software component (about 20 MB) that self-installs with all Microsoft Windows-based Autodesk 2015 and later products and suites.

Note: Application Manager replaces LiveUpdate. It also supersedes portions of the InfoCenter/Communication Center, the CAD Manager Control Utility, and other previous update components. These components remain available to support previous product versions.

View Available Updates

  1. If Application Manager is not already open, click the Application Manager icon in the taskbar or open it from the Start menu.
  2. On the Welcome tab, click one of the controls in the left column or along the top.

You see available updates and downloads. Examples include service packs and other assets, such as product extensions for subscription customers.

Select and Install Updates

By default, updates are listed chronologically, with the newest at the top. If a recent update depends on older updates, they are retrieved and installed automatically. For example, if you install Hot Fix2 and it requires Hot Fix 1, Hot Fix 1 is installed first.

  1. In the Updates tab, view the available updates. Do any of the following:
    • To learn more about an update, click the entry to view details and a link to Release Notes.
    • If you don't want to install an update, click Ignore. It remains in the list, dimmed, in case you decide to install it later.
    • Sort the updates either by severity or by date.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Select a single update and click Install.
    • Select one or more checkboxes and click Install Selected to apply all updates sequentially.
  3. You can pause and resume an installation request, or cancel it.

Configure Update Behavior

To learn more about a setting, move the cursor over the information icon next to a setting in the Settings dialog. Not all settings have this icon.

Do any of the following:

Note: The Import and Export links on the General tab are for standardizing settings across computers. For details, see the links at the bottom of this topic.

Change the Download Location

Updates are downloaded to a local directory on your computer. If you change the location, files downloaded to the previous location are copied to the new one.

Important: The file path can't be longer than 260 characters. To avoid exceeding the limit, specify a download folder near the top of the directory tree, and use short folder names.

Uninstall Application Manager

Uninstalling means that you don't receive alerts automatically. If you uninstall Application Manager, search for updates manually.

Note: In the list of applications, don't confuse Autodesk Application Manager with the similarly named App Manager.
  1. Close Application Manager if it is running:
    • Look for the Application Manager icon in the Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
    • If you see the icon, right-click it and select Exit. If it's not there, the application is not running.
  2. To uninstall on Windows 7, open the list of installed programs from the Control Panel and right-click Autodesk Application Manager > Uninstall/Change.
  3. To uninstall on Window 8 or 8.1, follow these steps:
    • On the Apps page, right-click the Autodesk Application Manager icon.
    • In the All Apps bar, click Uninstall to open the Programs and Features window.
    • Right-click Autodesk Application Manager > Uninstall/Change.
