At a high-level view the backburner manager is a queue for application submitted jobs. The backburner package contains multiple adapters for the different types of jobs submitted.
By default the backburner process, manager and server, both run on the local machine.
This means if you export through a remote wiretap gateway, i.e. a remote file system hosted by another workstation. The job needs to be processed by the corresponding adapter on that workstation. In a larger workflow environment it's common to have a centralized backburner manager and have all backburner servers pointing to that manager. The below diagram illustrates this:
This setup will allow you to export through different workstation filesystems, without have to keep toggling the backburner manager to match the system you're sending media to.
