Create a quality-control workflow for a construction site in BIM 360

Aug 23, 2019

What

Include checklists in quality-control workflows to track progress, quality, safety, or commissioning of the construction site. Use the checklist on a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, to make it easier to assign and track nonconforming issues.

Who

Construction managers, General contractors, Subcontractors, Project managers.

How

You assign checklists to onsite contractors for quality control. Contractors then complete the checklists on a mobile device. If there are issues with checklist items, the contractor can include photos, assign the item to subcontractors, and track progress directly from the checklist.

Workflow steps

Set up checklist templates in a project, or globally on your account. You can publish an account-level checklist template to a project, which saves time. Use sections to build a checklist. For more information, see Create checklist templates.

Add an assignment and due date to your new checklist. In the checklist sections, assign one or more users or roles. You can set required/mandatory fields in a checklist, such as required signatures before a checklist can be closed out.

  1. In BIM 360 Field Management, initiate a checklist.
  2. Review individual checklist items.
  3. If there are nonconforming items, do the following:
    1. Initiate and assign the issue.
    2. Notify the company of open issues.
    3. Rectify the issue and update its status.
    4. Check whether the issue is resolved.
    5. If the issue is resolved, close it.
  4. Complete all checklist items and sections.
  5. Submit the checklist.
  6. Run a report.

You can share the generated PDF reports with individuals. The reports contain hyperlinks that link directly to BIM 360 issues.

Why

Checklists can help track progress, quality, safety, or commissioning of the construction site. Checklists help construction managers, general contractors, and owners track project progress and performance.

What next
