Before you install your Autodesk product it's important to prepare your system, which helps to ensure a smooth and successful installation.
Read through the steps below or watch our video walkthrough.
Get Administrator Permissions
If you're installing on your personal computer, you can skip this step.
If you're not installing on your own personal computer, you'll need to confirm that you have Local User Administrative permissions to install software. Check this by going to Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage User Accounts (for Windows systems).
Note: Domain User Administrative permissions may not be sufficient to install Autodesk software on your computer. Contact your system administrator if you don't have Local User Administrative permissions.
Turn off Antivirus When installing, turning off Antivirus solutions may facilitate an installation. In some cases, Antivirus will prevent programs from properly writing to your Windows TEMP directory and possibly fail an installation or cause an installation to hang. Error messages may or may not display. When messages do display, they tend to refer to problems with the user /TEMP/ directory.
With the variety of Antivirus solutions available in the Marketplace, it is not uncommon for some solutions to affect installations while others do not. Some applications allow you to disable the software scan for a period of time, while others let you simply turn them off until a reboot. Some solutions require users to have administrator privileges to access the AV functions and in some locked-down situations, disabling the Antivirus in windows startup may be the only way to ensure Antivirus is turned off and not affecting the install.
Empty your TEMP folder
To open the TEMP folder, type %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter.
Note: If your product installation fails and you decide to open a Support Request with Autodesk Product Support, we would need to review install logs created in your TEMP folder during this product installation attempt.
Install System Updates and Exit Applications
Install all system updates and restart your computer. Make sure to exit all applications that may be running on your system before starting the installation process.
Note: Anti-virus programs can sometimes interfere with the installation process. Temporarily disabling your anti-virus program may help if you're having trouble with your installation.
Disable the User Account Control (UAC)
Download Software or Insert Media
Locating Install Files
Downloads: If you downloaded your software from Subscription Center, Autodesk Account, or another source, check the default download folder for your Web browser, your Desktop, Downloads folder, or the Autodesk folder: System > Autodesk > ProductName_Version_Language_OS as seen in the below image.
USB or DVD: A folder containing install files should appear on your desktop after inserting the media.
