"Error 1606: Could not access network location" when using "Run as" option to install

Dec 1, 2014

Issue:

When you use the "Run as" option from the shortcut menu in Windows to launch the product installer or an install script, the installation fails with the following error message:

Error 1606 Could not access network location

Causes:

This issue occurs because the installer tries to place files into another user's profile where you do not have write access.

Solution:

During program installation, the installer must have access to write to various locations in the Windows user profile. Make sure you are logged in as a user with administrative rights before you try to install.

Note: "Run as" installation methods have not been tested and are not supported for Autodesk products, unless explicitly mentioned in the product's installation documentation.

Products:

AutoCAD;AutoCAD LT;VIZ

Versions:

2004;2005;2006;2007;2008
