About Content Explorer Watched Folders

A watched folder is a folder which has been selected for monitoring and indexing by Autodesk Content Service. Watched folders can exist on your local hard disk, or on a network computer running Autodesk Content Service. When you search a local or network content provider, all watched folders are searched. Any design files or objects in those folders that match the search criteria are found. You can add watched folders using the Content Explorer Configuration Console.

Network Watched Folders

Network folders can only be watched if the network computer is running Autodesk Content Service, and if the folders are given public "share" permissions. Autodesk Content Service runs in the background, monitoring and indexing files on the network computer. Content Explorer users on the network can search those folders.

Personal and Public Watched Folders

Any watched folder that has been given "share" permissions is considered a public watched folder, available to Content Explorer users on the network. By default, watched folders on your local computer might not be shared, and these are considered personal watched folders. If you give "share" permissions to a local watched folder, it becomes public, available to other Content Explorer users on the network. To them, it is a network watched folder.
