Notice to AutoCAD Mechanical Customers
In a continuing effort to provide high quality products,
Autodesk has released AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 1, which fixes or
addresses a variety of issues pertaining to AutoCAD Mechanical 2009.
This README file highlights what has been fixed or addressed,
where to download the update, and how to install it.

AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 1 on the following supported operating systems.

Installation
Instructions
Before you begin to install, ensure that ...
- You have created a backup of all custom CUI, MNR, and MNL files
- You have administrative privileges on the computer.
You must have administrative permissions to install, uninstall, or apply service packs. Only administrators can deploy the service pack over the network using a Network Deployment.
- The original installation disc or network image is readily accessible.
During installation, you may be prompted for the original installation disc or network image.
- You are using a 64-bit version of Windows, if you are creating a 64-bit deployment of the patch.
A 64-bit
.msp file can only be extracted on a 64-bit version of Windows.
Standalone installation
NOTE: If you are using Windows Vista, do not select the Automatically close applications and attempt to restart them after setup is complete option. Instead, we recommend that you manually close AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 before you install this update.
- Download acm2009_swl_sp1_x32.exe for the 32-bit version or acm2009_swl_sp1_x64.exe for the 64-bit version of AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 1 installer.
Note: this patch can
also be installed on the AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 product that is included in
the following Autodesk Inventor products :
- Autodesk Inventor Suite 2009
- Autodesk Inventor Professional 2009
- Autodesk Inventor Routed Systems
Suite 2009
- Autodesk Inventor Simulation Suite
2009
- Autodesk Inventor Tooling Suite 2009
- Double click the installer to run it.
- Once AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 1 installation is complete, a message informing you that the update has been successfully applied is displayed.
Network deployment
It is not possible to create a new deployment tree based off an
existing one. If you wish to keep a copy of your original Deployment tree, copy
the original to another location prior to making changes.
To add the service pack to a new administrative image
- Insert the
product install disc and launch Setup .exe.
- Select Create Deployments.
- Continue
through the deployment wizard until you come to the Configuration page.
- In the Configuration of AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 page, select Network license
and specify your license server location.
- Click Next until you come to the Include Service Packs page.
- Click on
the Updates are available button. If this button is not enabled please follow the steps in Note.
- In the Manage
Patch Folder dialog box,
- Click Action type
- Select <Add to patch
folder>
- Click the Update Patch Folder button.
The patch will be
downloaded to <your deployment
location>\AdminImage\ServicePacks folder.
Once the
download is completed, you will receive a message stating that your local patch folder has
been updated.
- Click Close on the Manage Patch Folder dialog.
- Back in the Include Service Packs page, click the Browse button to locate your patch
file (step 7).
- Verify that
the service pack has been added to the Service packs included in this
deployment box.
- Continue
through the configuration or click Configuration Complete.
- Click Create
Deployment to start your deployment creation.
To
apply the service pack to an existing administrative image
- Browse to the
location containing the existing administrative image.
- In the Tools folder, double-click the <Create & modify a deployment> shortcut
to launch the deployment wizard.
- Click the
<Modify an existing deployment> option.
- Continue
through the deployment wizard until you come to the Configuration page.
- In the
Configuration of AutoCAD Mechanical 2009, click Next until you come to the Include Service Packs page.
- Click on
the Updates are available button. If this button is not enabled please follow the steps in Note.
- In the Manage
Patch Folder dialog box,
- Click Action type
- Select <Add to patch
folder>
- Click the Update Patch Folder button.
The patch will be
downloaded to <your deployment
location>\AdminImage\ServicePacks folder.
Once the
download is completed, you will receive a message stating that your local patch folder has
been updated.
- Click Close on the Manage Patch Folder dialog.
- Back in the Include Service Packs page, click the Browse button to locate your patch
file (step 7).
- Verify that
the service pack has been added to the Service packs included in this
deployment box.
- Continue
through the configuration or click Configuration Complete.
- Click Create
Deployment to modify your existing deployment.
Notes
If the Updates are Available button is not enabled, follow the procedure outlined below to manually download the patch and create the deployment.
- Download the
service pack .exe file from Autodesk Product Support website.
- Extract
the .msp file from the service pack .exe file :
- On
the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter information using the following syntax
and click OK.
<local_drive:>\<patch_name> /e <local_drive:>\< patch_name> .msp
- Click
Browse to locate the .msp file you extracted in step 2.
- Verify that
the service pack has been added to the Service packs included in this
deployment box.
- Continue
through the configuration or click Configuration Complete.
- Click Create
Deployment to start your deployment creation.
After you install the Service Pack
- To verify if the Service Pack is properly installed,
- Start
AutoCAD Mechanical 2009
- At the command prompt, enter AMVER.
A text
window is displayed and should report "AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 SP1"
for the 32-bit version or "AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 x64 SP1" for the 64-bit
version.
- We recommend that you restart Microsoft Windows after you
install the Service Pack.
Uninstalling this Service Pack
NOTE: This service pack cannot be uninstalled if it has been installed via a network deployment, with a merged update.
Windows XP
- On the Start menu, click Settings > Control Panel.
- Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- In Windows XP, select the Show Updates option.
- Locate the appropriate service pack in the list of updates and click Remove.
Windows Vista
- On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- Click Programs.
- Click Programs and Features .
- In the Programs and Features window, in the left pane, click View Installed Updates..
- Locate the appropriate service pack in the list of updates and click Uninstall.
Issues
addressed by AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service Pack 1
This service pack includes AutoCAD 2009 Update 1. For
information on the issues addressed by AutoCAD 2009 Update 1, please
refer to the Readme at http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240618.
Fatal
Errors Fixed:
- Fatal error when clicking the browse button
in "value" column after adding a new property in Bill of Materials
Settings dialog.
- Fatal error in AMPOWERDIM_CHAIN baseline
dimensions.
- Fatal error when invoking command AMVISIBLE
after setting CMDDIA=0.
- Fatal error when opening certain drawings.
- Fatal error in MTEXT editor after drag and
drop a drawing file from Windows Explorer to Internet Explorer.
- Fatal error in when closing one of the two
drawings that have AMPOWERDIM running in both sessions.
- Fatal error in Lock function in commandline
interface of AMLAYERGROUP command.
- Fatal error in Structure Catalog when an
active drawing is renamed in Windows Explorer.
Bill of
Materials, Parts List & Balloons:
- An additional item "Browse..." listed
in the dropdown list for custom Balloon.
- Two empty rows in Parts List table of
BOM Settings dialog.
- Missing geometries caused by binding
(with "Bind" and "Insert") an already loaded external
reference.
- Parts List does not update after
editing component mass value.
- Close button of "Parts
List" task dialog is not working in Balloon setting dialog box.
- Help page does not launch after
executing F1 key in BOM and Parts List dialogs.
- Help page does not launch after
executing F1 key in Balloon Style combo box.
- Cannot attach a predefined part
reference to newly inserted title block.
- Fits representation returns a blank
box once changes are made in the Fits preview box.
- "Wrap around title block" in Parts
List column split is not working for imperial unit drawings.
- Warning task dialog does not show up
to warn against empty Property column name.
- Deleting a screw using the keyboard
"Delete" key does not update the Parts List automatically.
- Text function in Bill of Material
property does not include suffix if the value is less than 1.
Standard
Parts & Features:
- Some standard parts (nuts) are missing
after opening certain drawings.
- Hatched shaft end is drawn instead of
Freehand shaft end in AMSHAFTEND.
- Top view of feature hole that is created by
Power View is placed in AM_3 instead of AM_0 layer.
Symbols
& Dimension:
- AMNOTE command does not show the correct
arrowhead when "arrowhead" is set to "block" in Options.
- Point
on dimension lines are snapped when created lines are linked.
- Inconsistent behavior with Join Dimensions
and Tolerances.
- Error with symbols in AutoCAD Mechanical
2008 when opening files from previous releases.
- Default arrowhead of Marking/Stamping
symbol and Weld symbol are wrong.
- The display of "Majority" option
in surface texture changes.
- "Copy from" for arc length dimension is not
working.
- "Copy from" does not copy the dimension
style of the selected dimension.
- No response after clicking "Radius..." or "Diameter..."
button under "ISO-25" dimension style in Dimension Settings
dialog.
- Extensions of AMPOWERDIM command (eg.
AMPOWERDIM_VER) are not blocked when a Mechanical Desktop drawing is
opened in AutoCAD Mechanical.
- Dimension style migrated from AutoCAD
Mechanical 2008 does not retain Text height value.
- Attachment point of weld symbols did not
get mirrored correctly in a MIRROR command.
- AutoCAD dimension style created in AutoCAD
2008 does not get migrated correctly to AutoCAD Mechanical 2009.
- Newly created dimension does not honor the
new model scale after it is changed in Options.
- Base dimension in Chain dimension could not
be selected after a few UNDO operations.
- Dimension text cannot be moved after
opening a corrupted drawing.
- Baseline dimension is not shown correctly
if it is created right after a chain dimensioning operation.
- In some drawings, copy and paste of
dimensions may cause the application to close unexpectedly to a Customer
Error Report.
Mechanical Structure:
- During editing of structure
component, "Break at one Point" removes geometries from structure
definition.
- Hidden attributes in blocks are
visible in hide situations.
- File lock is activated on the
external references after running AMSETUPDWG twice.
- Cannot copy and paste objects to an
activated structure view.
- Existing objects in hide situation
are lost after new objects are added to the hide situations.
- Dropdown list for "Store hide
situation on:" does not collapse automatically when the Hide Situation
dialog is moved.
- In some circumstances, hide
situations created on arcs and ellipses are not correct.
Vault:
- Tree View is showing wrong Vault status
icon in structure catalog.
GOST Standard :
- Redundant symbol " ~ " displayed
when renaming GOST standard part in Parts List.
- Item number can be assigned new item number
and "Renumber All Items" is possible in the Material category in Parts
List.
- Extension title block attributes did not
get imported from external .tit file in AMTITLE dialog.
- Fatal error when pasting value
"-5" to the control "Lines to skip after category" in
Parts List dialog.
- Standard part name and part number do not
appear in the same line in Parts List.
Other issues fixed:
- Detail view cannot be created when ellipse
is offset.
- Fillet or chamfer cannot be created on an
open polyline.
- When moving items, "Previous" selection
does not select the previously selected items correctly.
- Text color and arrow head color settings in
Options AM:Standards are changed after inserting a title block.
- Fatal error when clicking "Space + Esc"
key combinations in Dimension Settings dialog.
- AMPSCALE is show "Plain text" instead of
prompting for new value.
- Switching between AutoCAD and AutoCAD
Mechanical sessions causes dashboard to stretch and occupy the entire
window.
- In some situations, Text vanishes
temporarily after a MOVE operation and appears again after a REGEN.
- Problem with AMEQUATEDIT not able to locate
genform2.glf file.
Miscellaneous Notes
AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 and AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 Service
Pack 1 use the same file format. All drawing files created in any of these
versions are interchangeable
