Error 1606 when installing 2014 product

Issue:

You want to install a 2014 version of an Autodesk product, but get a 1606 error.

Solution:

Option 1:
  1. Run regedit.exe.
  2. Browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

  1. Check for “Name” =  Common Documents defined as C:\Users\Public\Documents.
  2. If you cannot find Registry key name and data, add the following Registry information under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

Key name:  Common Documents
Type:            REG_SZ
Data:            C:\Users\Public\Documents

Option 2:

  1. Run regedit.exe.
  2. Browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

  1. Verify the various path referenced that point to \Users\ folders, navigate to those folders in Windows Explorer and ensure the folders exist. If they do not, create them.
