Issue:

To transform the coordinate system of points when importing them to a Civil 3D drawing.
For example, if a Point file coordinate system is different from the coordinate system of a drawing.

Solution:

To transform the coordinates of a point file, for example, from Gauss-Krueger to ETRS89.UTM, create a Point File Format for importing the point file.

  1. Open a drawing with its Coordinate System set to the desired (target) system.
  2. In TOOLSPACE, click the Settings tab
  3. Expand Point > Point File Formats.
  4. Select the predefined point file format that corresponds to your point file. Right-click the selection. Click Copy.
  5. Enter a new Format name.
  6. Select the Northing column and change the value to Grid Northing.
  7. Select the Easting column and change the value to Grid Easting.
  8. Select the Coordinate Zone Transform checkbox, and then click the Globe button to choose the coordinate zone that matches the point file.

Point File format setup

  1. Click OK.
  2. See attached screencast

Note: To enable coordinate transformation, you must use Grid Northing and Grid Easting as import parameters.

To convert from/to WGS84 (LL84) to/from ETRS89.UTM, choose DECDEG-Latitude and DECDEG-Longitude for "decimal degrees" in steps 6 and 7.

Tip: Save the new Point File Format in a drawing template (DWT) file for future use.
