Structure style to display structure, hatch and 3D soild on top in Civil 3D

Issue:

You want to know if it is possible to adjust the structure style in Autodesk® AutoCAD® Civil 3D® that way that the structure, the hatch and the 3D solid wireframe is displayed at the same time.
The desired result looks like this:

Solution:

  • This is a program limitation and it is not possible to create a pipe network style that way
  • It is possible to change the visual style for example from 2D-wireframe to wireframe to get an approximate visual display. But this will not work for structures and pipes the same way and plotting does not work with all visual styles.
  • Two possible workarounds can be followed:
  1. EXPLODE the pipe structure to geometry and use the draworder tools to sort the display 
    1. Create a copy of the pipe network parts
    2. Explode everything and create hatches
    3. Place the hatches under the pipe network parts using the draworder commands
  2. Use a separate transparent layer for the hatch 
    1. Open the pipe structure style
    2. Switch to the Display tab
    3. Change the layer for the Structure Hatch to a separate and transparent layer
